Congratulations to Team Volteoans! Yesterday we showed the finals of the CreatorCon Hackathon and announced that Team Volteoans won with their app Clinical Care Management (EMR). The hackathon team would like to thank everyone for participating in the weekend-long hackathon. We had over 220 people across 50 teams submit applications by the end of the weekend and had some really impressive and innovative apps submitted. Choosing the five category winners and the grand prize winner was very difficult for our judging teams.

CreatorCon 2020 Virtual Hackathon Streaming Doing a virtual hackathon means that more people across the world can participate, which we’re really excited about. The downside is that we’re not all in a room together. While teams will be collaborating internally with each other and we have the hackathon community forum, we wanted to do something else to create some community and camaraderie.
We’re excited to announce that in addition to the special Hackathon version of Live Coding Happy Hour on Friday, May 1 at 4 PM EDT, we’re going to be doing two more Livestream Hackathon Shows over the weekend streaming live on YouTube and Twitch.

Working Remotely Tips and Tricks
About As companies start to encourage (or mandate) their employees to work from home/remote (WFH) temporarily due to COVID-19 many of these employees will include ServiceNow developers. We’ve worked remotely for more than 13 years combined, from multiple houses, countries, planes, trains, and automobiles. Having experienced the WFH differences between 7 different companies, we wanted to give some tips from our experiences.

In the Developer Program, we have been soliciting platform feedback for some time now. Your feedback has gone into product planning around developer tools in the New York, Orlando and Paris releases. We absolutely want to continue to get your feedback but there is a more permanent and robust place for that now - the Idea Portal in Community. Not only can you submit your ideas there, but you can vote on other submissions and track the state through its lifecycle.

Over on the Acorio blog, Meghan Lockwood published a list of 27 ServiceNow professionals to follow. All of the present and former developer advocates of this program were on that list: myself, Andrew Barnes and Josh Nerius. It is a great honor to be included in this list. Speaking for all three of us it is a proud moment for everyone. Thank you Meghan!
If you are looking for information and inspiration related to the Now Platform, that list is a very good one to follow on social media.

[Update October 2019]
Our own mechanism is now deprecated in favor of the Idea Portal in the Community. We absolutely want you to continue to submit feedback about the platform, but this is now the intake mechanism of record. Thank you!
As we continue forward iterating on the ServiceNow platform, we always want to make our tools better and your experience as a developer better. As we plan future releases, we want to know what your pain points are so we can make them better.

From Andrew Joining ServiceNow this year and working with Dave Slusher has been a pleasure and I am looking forward to next year. We have traveled around the world in the last few months visiting with developers and writing blogs in airport lounges.

Joining Developer Program Greetings this is Andrew Barnes!
The developer advocacy arm of the developer program has helped grow and empower the ServiceNow developer community. Dave Slusher and formerly Josh Nerius have done an amazing job with this program. The developer community would not be the same without them and their efforts.
A short while ago I joined ServiceNow and specifically the developer advocate team.
I have been developing on the ServiceNow platform since being inspired at Knowledge 14.

For the last two years, the developer advocacy portion has been brought to you predominantly by two people - myself and Josh Nerius (aka @NeriusNow.) Josh recently took on a new role within the company and transitioned to new responsibilities.
Much of what was good about the program over this time originated with Josh. He’s the one who posted much of our content about Flow Designer and OAuth. GitHub Companion and our ability to (psuedo) accept pull requests for ServiceNow development was one of his brainstorms.

We will discuss in the coming weeks and months a little about how we built it using a combination of ServiceNow infrastructure and the Hugo static site generator. Some functionality does not yet exist, such as commenting and liking that existed on the previous Community-site-hosted blog.

In case you were not aware, there is a collection of Technical Best Practices that are published on the Developer Portal. This material is also available via navigation under the Learn > Documentation header in the top navigation. This is important information that needs to have a good home where it is accessible by developers at any time. We often have sessions covering this material at Knowledge (I co-presented on in 2014, for example) but it can be difficult to know where to access it on a daily basis.
