October is right around the corner and you know what that means! It’s Hacktoberfest!
ServiceNow Developers participation It’s the 10th anniversary of DigitalOcean’s Hacktoberfest, and the 7th year we ServiceNow Developers are participating in this event by contributing to ServiceNow open-sourced projects and repositories.
October is once again behind us and our most successful ServiceNow Hacktoberfest has concluded! Here are the final numbers for 2022:
520 Pull requests. A 15% increase over last year, but a HUGE increase of pull requests in projects that required higher-effort participation. 64% of Pull Requests this year were in higher-effort projects, compared to 14% last year. 396 Forks. A 36% increase over last year. 201 Unique Participants.
One of the ongoing issues that we deal with in the Developer Program is the continuity of the free Personal Developer Instances (PDI). No matter how well intentioned you are, it is always possible to have a time period where you are out of the office and miss the email about your Developer Instance expiring. I don’t like the idea of anyone losing their work but there is only so much we can do to prevent it.
We are past the half-way point of Hacktoberfest and wanted to highlight the amazing progress so far! If you haven’t participated yet, you still have time! Check out our Hacktoberfest 2022 post to get started.

Pull Requests Hacktoberfest completion is measured in “Pull requests” approved and merged so let’s take a look at that first:
It’s that time of year again! Every year we encourage ServiceNow Developers to participate in DigitalOcean’s Hacktoberfest event by contributing to a ServiceNow project or repository.
Why participate? The more the community is equipped, the more that community can contribute. The more you get used to source-controlled projects, the more you can contribute to any number of open-source projects. You get a free t-shirt (the t-shirt also comes with bragging rights)!
The Orlando and Paris releases have brought many new capabilities to the Now Platform allowing developers to implement their own Continuous Improvement and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to accelerate Now Platform development. Those include selective commits, editing outside of Studio, MID server support for the Source Control integration, global app support for Source Control, and APIs and IntegrationHub Spoke subflows and actions that allow developers to automate testing and deployment.
