Don’t Press Pause: How Staying Informed on New Releases, Even if You’re Not Upgrading, Boosts Your Game

Hello, ServiceNow developers, admins, analysts, and architects! Our collective journey of continuous learning brings us once again to exciting times, a new release is just around the corner! Many of us love the thrill of directly jumping into the latest upgrade, while some prefer a more gradual approach. Each approach is unique and valuable. Regardless of your company’s upgrade cadence, I suggest keeping an ear to the ground about our latest releases, even if immediate upgrades aren’t in your plans. This strategy is like knowing the layout of a new city before your arrivalbit makes your eventual visit smoother and more enriching.

Why stay informed?

In my own experience, there were several times where I was able to guide my team to avoid duplicating work (or at least inform our decision on “Make it ourselves” vs. just wait 3 months for the official version), start getting buy-in from stakeholders for future features, and simply staying true to the importance of continuous education in tech.

Understanding the benefits of staying informed about new releases can be a game-changer. In general, here are some key ways it enhances your toolkit:

  • Gaining Competitive Advantage: Stay ahead of the curve. Having a deep know-how of new features and improvements provides you a competitive edge, keeping you at the cutting-edge of the ServiceNow Platform.
  • Predicting Potential Issues: Early knowledge of new releases allows you to spot potential challenges down the line and plan solutions ahead of time.
  • Prepping for Future Upgrades: By understanding the nuances of new releases, you’re equipping yourself for a seamless transition whenever you decide to upgrade.
  • Anticipating the future: By understanding what’s new, you can anticipate trends, prepare for upcoming changes, and even influence the path of the software development based on your feedback.

The Devople Advocates here at the ServiecNow Developer Program work hard to provide diverse forms of content to suit every learning preference:
